RuinTen

Style - Double IPA

Commercial Description:  Stone Ruination Tenth Anniversary IPA was created as an homage to the almighty hop. As the celebrated Stone Ruination IPA approached its 10th birthday this June, we knew we had to do something special, so we cranked it up from 7.7% to 10.8% and used twice as much hops–a whopping 5 pounds per barrel, including a pound each of Citra and Centennial in the dry hop. The results were GLORIOUS, but don’t take our word for it. The only people more bitter than those who don’t get any… will be those who do.

Editor’s Notes:  This is something to celebrate. Take one of the best IPAs in existence and celebrate its 10th birthday by doubling the amount of hops in the recipe. That’s a great idea on paper - and guess what? It is executed to perfection! It has been two years since Stone first released “RuinTen”, and it is now an annual release due to its popularity. That is great news for us! The aroma is marked by grapefruit, orange, and pineapple hops with a secondary dose of sweet malt in the background. It is very similar to Ruination’s aroma, although it has a bit more tropical fruit and a malt presence. The taste is similar to the aroma, with grapefruit, orange, pineapple, lemon, and even a bit of mango hops partially balanced by brown sugar malt. It is nice and thick – you might even say chewy. The hop bitterness is there (of course), especially at the beginning of the sip. This is a sipping beer, and the alcohol is noticeable. However, RuinTen is an art form; brewing at its finest. Rest assured that I will look forward to it every summer and stock up so that I can enjoy it into the Fall!
