Head Hunter

Style - IPA

Commercial Description:  Uncivilized & aggressive. Few ingredients in the world can stir the ire of a master brewer. Hops is one of them. Inspired by this legendary flower we scoffed at the challenge to create a beer to surpass all others and set new standards for a balls-to-the-wall IPA. This is the result. An in-your-face, dry-hopped, West Coast-style IPA that lumbers over the tongue with caramelized malt and a huge hop display of pine, grapefruit, tangerine, and pineapple that cannot be rivaled. A punch-you-in-the-mouth brew for those who truly love their hops!

Editor’s Notes:  I’m always excited to drink Head Hunter as I didn’t know if I would ever be able to find it. It unexpectedly fell into my lap as a gift from a good friend, which is probably the best way to get a good IPA! The aroma is full of grapefruit hops; you can’t always be that specific but in this case it’s obvious. The taste follows suit with delcious grapefruit hop flavor partially offset by sweet caramel malt. The bitterness is substantial throughout the sip, although it subsides a bit as you swallow. Not to worry – your tongue is an absolute wreck after only a few sips! The finish is ultra-dry, to the point of making your tongue and cheeks feel chalky. I think if you rub a stick on my tongue right now we could easily start a fire. Head Hunter is a fantastic IPA and I am a lucky man to have had the chance to try it. Now how am I going to source some more?!

This beer rocks. Pliny the Elder for those who cannot find Pliny the Elder. Strong grapefruit in the aroma and taste from the Simcoe hops. Wonderful pour with a solid but not overpowering head. It is a shame that this beer is not more widely available, becuase it is truly wonderful.
