Wipeout

Style - IPA

Commercial Description:  Welcome to the waters of Wipeout IPA, a massively hopped India Pale Ale.  We brew Wipeout IPA for everyone – especially those hardy souls who brave the cold winter water and monster sets produced by an amazing northwest swell.  Only a tidal wave of hops can overcome the surging tide of malt that is required to produce a beer of this shape. We invite you to drop in, hang on and kick out the backside.

Editor’s Notes:  Wipeout is not the most revered of Port Brewing’s IPAs, but in my opinion it is just as good as any of them. The hops are jumping out of the bottle on this one. You can smell the grapefruit, orange, and pineapple from a mile away. Strong grapefruit hop flavor makes a strong impression, with a bit of orange, lemon, and melon backing it up. Every once in a while a bit of tobacco malt breaks through on your taste buds, but the delicious citrus hop flavors stamp it out a millisecond later. The bitterness hits you like a ton of bricks the second the first drop hits your tongue and lasts a nice, long time. One minor complaint would be that the carbonation is a bit heavy, but overall it still nears perfection. Wipeout is a hop-forward West Coast IPA that absolutely is one of my favorites.

I to had a problem with the carbonation, the head stayed with the beer for half the glass. I liked the orange/melon taste that you don’t normally find in an IPA. The hops were not overpowering which is another thing that I liked. Overall a good variation of an IPA.
